England boss Roy Hodgson is unsure whether delaying a decision on his contract is correct

England manager Roy Hodgson has questioned whether the decision on his future should be delayed until after Euro 2016. Hodgson’s contract runs out next July and new FA chief executive Martin Glenn has said that no extension will be offered until after the tournament in France. Glenn described the 67-year-old manager as “comfortable” with the plan but, speaking after the World Cup qualifying draw in St Petersburg at the weekend, Hodgson was adamant that he wanted to continue and suggested that speculation about his future could prove a distraction ahead of Euro 2016.I do understand also there have been incidences in the past where people's contracts have been renewed and then it has gone badly in a tournament and, as a result, the FA have found themselves with someone they no longer wanted. So I understand both positions really. "The Euro 2016 (arrangement) suits me perfectly well at the moment. In answer to the question 'would you like to continue working with this team?', I suppose the answer has got to be 'yes'. “It is a wonderful job and, if the FA want me to continue with it, I would be happy to do so. I am still young enough.

AC Milan won't increase offer for Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani says the club will not increase their offer for Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli this summer. The Rossoneri have made a £17.5m (€25m) bid to acquire the 20-year-old centre-back, who is under contract with Roma until June 2018 and has also been linked with Arsenal, according to The Telegraph. Roma have reportedly told Milan they must increase their offer by a further €5m to have any chance of signing the Italy Under-21 international, but Galliani says that will not happen. Our offer for Romagnoli is unchangeable," Galliani said to Gazzetta dello Sport. "Romagnoli is an interesting player and if we can, we will satisfy our coach. "Otherwise, we will look at other alternatives." AC Milan appointed former Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic as their new manager last month. Mihajlovic is an admirer of Romagnoli, who he coached last season when the defender was on loan at Sampdoria.

Chelsea fans fighting banning orders to learn fate next week

The black commuter at the centre of the Paris Metro race row has told a court that he was "violently" pushed off the train as a Chelsea fan pointed to his skin colour. Souleymane Sylla was repeatedly shoved off the carriage amid chants of "John Terry is a racist and that's the way we like it, ooh, ooh, ooh". Four British football fans admit being in the carriage and three of them say they pushed the Parisian off - but insist it was because it was too full, not because he was black. The case was adjourned until next Wednesday when District Judge Gareth Branston will give his ruling. In a short extract from Mr Sylla's statement read out at Stratford Magistrates' Court in London, he said: "When I approached them to enter the coach, one of them pushed me away violently to put me back on to the platform.

Inverness boss John Hughes upset with Astra's winning goal

"I'm disappointed about losing the goal, especially the way we lost it," Hughes said. "They were well warned about Budescu's quality from dead balls and we gave away a cheap free-kick and got punished. "We dominated the game but we just needed to be a bit more cutting in the final third and get there quicker. "But we played against a good side and they got men behind the ball and we just need to move it quick. One or two need a bit more fitness and I think it told as the game went on. But I'm very proud of the boys. "We are still in the tie. I just spoke to their coach, I don't know if he understood me but he praised our style of football and gave me a look to say 'you are still in the tie'." Astra coach Marius Sumudica feels his team have a "small advantage" because of the away goal but warned that his side must be careful in the second leg.

Tom Cleverley has adapted really well at Everton, says Roberto Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is delighted with how midfielder Tom Cleverley has settled in at the club after signing from Manchester United. Cleverley, 25, joined the Toffees on a free transfer earlier this summer, with the England international coming on as a substitute in the Merseysiders' penalty shoot-out victory over Stoke City in the Barclays Asia Trophy on Wednesday. "I always mention our biggest strength is our dressing room as a football club, that core we have from our captain Phil Jagielka, to Tony Hibbert, Tim Howard, Leon Osman and Leighton Baines," said Martinez. They are players who allow you to come in and as long as you get real high standards, you are always welcome. "And I think Tom is a real example of that. He had a good connection with the England footballers, but straight away he has adapted really well in the way of working and playing, and you can see that he has terrific Premier League experience." Everton face Arsenal in the final in Singapore on Saturday. Watch Everton take on Arsenal in the Barclays Asia Trophy final on Sky Sports 1 HD on Saturday, from 1.30pm.
